Welcome all to the first installment of a segment I like to call...
The Tuesday Tune-up.
Since I am getting this to you kind of late I am not going to waste your time with some boring intro. So, that being said, here are my pick ups for the week and players that need to be kicked to the curb in Randy Moss fashion.
Weekly Pickups
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Bills - Fitz has been on fire since becoming the starter in week 3. He has passed for 1,200 yards, thrown 12 TDs and 5 Ints in five games. Fitz is averaging between 20 to 25 fantasy points and he is not facing cupcake defenses. Ryan has put up big numbers against the Patriots, Jets, Jaguars, Ravens and Chiefs. If he is available in your league, grab him now.
Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions - Why pick up Matthew Stafford? Two words Calvin Johnson. As long as CJ is on the field Stafford should put up good numbers. That and the Lions are always seem to behind and have to pass a lot.
Vince Young, QB, Titans - VY may not be one of the best passers in the league, but he does have the best running back. Teams will stack the line to stop Chris Johnson and dare VY to throw the ball. QBs that throw the ball a lot usually put on decent fantasy stats.
LeGarrette Blount, RB, Buccaneers - He had a monster game last week and is clearly the #1 RB in Tampa. Blount runs hard and isn't afraid to punch defenders right in the mouth..... figuratively. All kidding aside, Blount is hungry and looking to prove doubters wrong. He should be a solid #2 running back the rest of the way.
Mike Hart, RB, Colts - With both of my starting RBs on a bye, I needed a miracle, I needed to strike lighting in a barrel, I needed Hart. And that who I turned to, Mike Hart. With his help I pulled off the victory. For this very reason I am suggesting you to pick up hi,. Of course if my gutsy play of Mike Hart does not convince you, then maybe the fact he is now the #2 running back behind injury prone Addai and plays in a dynamic offense should be all the convincing you need. However, be aware that Hart did leave the game with an apparent leg injury, but was later seen standing on the sidelines for the remainder of the game. Check his status later on this week to see if he has a serious injury.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB, Patriots - Green-Ellis appears to have take control of the #1 running spot for the Patriots. He had a huge game against the Vikings and has recorded a TD in his last five games. Most importantly, Green-Ellis is receiving the goal line carries.
Danny Woodhead, RB, Patriots - Danny is averaging about 13 fantasy points a game in PPR leagues. He has become the Patriots 3rd down back. Danny makes for a decent flex option in PPR leagues only.
Patrick Crayton, WR, Chargers - Who is the only WRs left for the Chargers? His name is Patrick Crayton. Crayton may not be a great or even good WR, but he really is the only one left to catch passes from Rivers. He should provide you with a good WR3 or flex option.
Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Colts - Gonzalez was have a good game on Monday night until he went and got hurt again. If it turns out that he will not miss anytime, pick him up if you play in a PPR league. He should be getting at least 6-7 catches a game.
Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Raiders - Is Al Davis a genus or is Seattle pass defense really that bad? I tend to lean towards the later. That being said, Darrius Heyward-Bey is in the same boat as Crayton. There is really no one else to throw the ball too.
Jacob Tamme, TE, Colts - Dallas Clark who? Seems like whoever plays TE for the Colts is going to be a factor in the passing game. Grab Tamme if you can. He will be a top 10 TE from here on out, book it.
Visanthe Shiancoe, TE, Vikings -
Pre-Moss - 11 catches, 169 yards, 1 TD in 3 games;
Age of Moss - 9 catches, 96 yards, 0 TD in 4 games;
Post-Moss - Not sure what will happen, but surely he has to benefit from Moss being waived.
Taking out the trash (people to dump)
Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Seahawks - Quick, raise your hand if you like QBs that are surrounded by WRs who seem to drop the ball a lot. Keep your hand up if you also like QBs that spend more time on the ground then completing passes. If your hand is still up, then Matt Hasselbeck is the QB for you.
Donovan McNabb, QB, Redskins - He has been ok this year and has put up some decent numbers. The problem with McNabb is Shanahan. Do you really want to play a QB who gets pulled at the end of games? There has got to be better options on the waiver wire.
Alex Smith, QB, 49ers - DONE. Enough said.
Chris Ivory, RB, Saints - Well....he is now splitting carries with Julius Jones. If you are not good enough to have more carries than Julius Jones then you should not be on any fantasy roster.
Cadillac Williams, RB, Buccaneers - Time to recall this model. Blount is the man in Tampa now.
Tim Hightower, RB, Cardinals - He is no longer the starter in Arizona and is not worth having on your roster. LaRod Stephens-Howling is now taking carries away from Hightower and would be first in-line to get a crack at starting if Wells get injured.
Kevin Walter, WR, Texans - He is just simply not part of the offense anymore. In Fact, he has only been part of the offense for one game this year. It is time to dump him.
David Gettis, WR, Panthers - Ok, I have to admit that I added him two weeks ago and I was totally wrong in doing so. So, wrong that he blessed me with zero catches last week. My only saving grace was Gettis provided this offensive onslaught while sitting on my bench. He has since been dropped.
