Where the Hawks are one step closer to Andrew Luck

September 18th 2011 17:01
: Week 2 Picks
10-6 last week, so let's get straight to the picks...

Oakland @ Buffalo

Two teams that I picked against in week 1. I guess I'm just not ready for a world where Fitzpatrick throws for 4 TDs on the road and Oakland routinely has one of the better defenses in the league. I'm guessing this game will come down to which team has Fred Jackson and...yep, that would be Buffalo.
Bills 27-20

Kansas City @ Detroit

Can you believe Detroit is favored by nine? Not because that line is too much, but because it's Detroit. And they're favored. By 9. In my lifetime, I've seen Detroit go 0-16 as many times as I've seen them finish above .500 and here they are facing a playoff team from a year ago and giving 9 points. Crazy. And accurate.
Lions 24-15

Baltimore @ Tennessee

It was bittersweet watching Hasselbeck running the 2 minute drill down by 2. As he was getting close to midfield, I was thinking to myself "Wow, he looks like the Matty of old, we should have kept him one more year". Then he overthrew his receiver for the game-ending pick and I thought to myself "Wow, he looks like the Matty of old. We still should have kept him". Meanwhile, Baltimore gave me the greatest 3 hours of week. Every time I looked up they were either hitting Big Ben, picking off a Big Ben pass, or scoring so they could get the ball back to Big Ben as quickly as possible. Highly enjoyable.
Ravens 27-13

Cleveland @ Indianapolis

The Browns looked terrible and are still favored ON THE ROAD against the Colts. It's hard to believe that a Colts team helmed by Kerry Collins is so much worse than a Colts team helmed by Manning, but it certainly does appear to be that way. It's only been one week, so maybe there's a chance Collins improves a great deal over the last 7 days? Nope.
Browns 21-18

Tampa Bay @ Minnesota

I will continue to harp on Tarvaris Jackson, and for good reason, but did you know that McNabb only had 39 yards passing? For the entire game?! I'm curious how they feel in Minnesota. Do they look at Tarvaris and think "Dammit! Why'd we let him go?"? Are they resigned to the fact that both QBs are terrible and they were screwed either way? If you put a gun to my head, I suppose I would choose McNabb, I wonder if Vikings fans would choose Tarvaris. In short, when you consistently watch something shitty, does ANY option always seem like a better choice?
Bucs 31-24

Chicago @ New Orleans

Both teams looked great in week 1. The difference is one QB is Drew Brees, who consistantly looks great, and the other is Jay Cutler, who hasn't had back-to-back good games since...has Jay Cutler ever had back-to-back good games?
Saints 38-21

Jacksonville @ New York Jets

McCown. On the road. Against the Jets defense. Yep.
Jets 24-10

Seattle @ Pittsburgh

Steelers 31-0

Arizona @ Washington

I swear I had to look up last week's scores to see if Washington really won last week. I just can't believe Rex Grossman wins 2 games in a row. I really can't.
Cards 28-27

Green Bay @ Carolina

422 yards?! Really? I say Newton's performance is a fluke and, despite the Packers giving up 419 yards to Brees last week, I think Green Bay puts the clamps down on the rookie. Seriously, pass defense was Green Bay's only real problem last week. You think maybe the coaching staff might have tweaked their D a little bit and gotten the kinks out? Me too.
Packers 35-15

Dallas @ San Francisco

I really have nothing against Romo, I really don't, but it is fun watching him choke in clutch situations. He's like the anti-Joe Montana. Not that I think the Niners are that good, but wouldn't it be funny if Dallas lost this game too? Hmmm...
Niners (UPSET SPECIAL) 26-24

Cincinnati @ Denver

Orton squashes the Tebow chants, at least for this week.
Broncos 28-21

Houston @ Miami

The Texans obviously looked great last week and, despite throwing for 416 yards last week, I still keep Chad Henne in the same class that I keep Kerry Collins and McNabb (Tarvaris is a few notches below that). So Houston keeps it going. For now.
Texans 31-21

San Diego @ New England

True story: I'm in my car driving to Brea and listening to the Chargers playing the Vikings. There's like 3 seconds of silence and all of a sudden the Charger announcer says "You know, I really miss [Minn DE] Jared Allen's schlong". The other announcer says "Huh?" followed by the first announcer saying "His schlong, I really miss his schlong". There's like 3 more beats of silence before the guy finally says "His schlong haircut. Short in the front, long in the back. I miss his schlong." High comedy. Anyways, bet the over on this game.
Patriots 38-35

Philadelphia @ Atlanta

Vick's return! I think Philly wins this, so now I have to think about an 0-2 Falcons team. Are they really that good? Are we positive? I still say yes, but keep an eye out. We may have found our "team everyone picked for the playoffs that inexplicably stunk" for 2011-2012.
Eagles 24-17

St. Louis @ New York Giants

Rams gave the Eagles a good 2 quarters of football, but then it kind of fizzled out. I see the same thing happening here.
Giants 26-14
