Week 16!

December 24th 2010 20:27
: Football and Movie picks!
A few quick thoughts and my lists of movies this year:

I don't know what's more depressing: Seeing Jack Nicholson in the "How Do You Know" preview or Robert De Niro in the "Little Fockers" previews. Neither is as depressing as watching Matt Hasselbeck trying to play QB.

The Brewers got Zach Greinke. Boston got Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez. The Phillies got Cliff Lee. Seattle traded away Rob Johnson for a player to be named or cash. Everyone is having a good offseason.

The Huskies get to play Nebraska, a team that beat them by roughly 70 points earlier in the season. I'm happy to finally see Washington in a bowl game, but couldn't they have gotten a team they hadn't played already this season? Especially one that beat the Huskies like they were dating Chris Brown?

Why are the Ohio State players suspended for the first 5 games of next season and not for the bowl game this year? Couldn't the NCAA at least pretend they are not crooked? Mention the suspension after the bowl game, don't come right out and say you only care about the money. You've been sitting on it since 2009 as it is, what's the rush? Between that and awarding the first Heisman Trophy to include return postage, not a banner year for college football.

My top 5 movies this year:
1. The Social Network (I would watch a Sorkin movie based on the phone book, so I am a bit biased. But that doesn't change the fact that this movie was the best of the year)
2. The Next 3 Days (Right in Crowe's wheelhouse)
3. Toy Story 3 (I know, I know. I'd be a liar if I didn't put this on here)
4. Inception (Amazing to watch)
5. The Other Guys/MacGruber (The movies that keep on giving)

My bottom 5:
1. Saw 6 or 7 or whichever one it was (That had to have killed the series. Had to have)
2. The Expendables (How do you whiff on that film? Even an average script would have killed)
3. The Losers (Haven't seen it? You're very, very lucky)
4. Alice in Wonderland (I still don't know how a Burton/Depp movie missed so badly)
5. The Bounty Hunter (This should have been on the next list. Fast forwarded the last 50 minutes. Tell me again why Jennifer Aniston is considered an A-list star?)

5 movies you couldn't get me to watch with you no matter how cute you are or how much money you gave me:
1. Burlesque (Cher and Xtina on the screen together! Even my crush on Kristen Bell couldn't get me to watch this)
2. Sex and the City 2 ("Here is your ticket sir. Ma'am, here is your mason jar. ')
3. Just Wright (Because an NBA player could absolutely fall in love with Queen Latifah! Really!)
4. The Backup Plan (Hey honey, instead of renting this, why don't we just break up?)
5. Dear John/Charlie St. Cloud/Valentine's Day/Remember Me/Letters to Juliet/Killers/Eat,Pray,Love/ You Again/Life as we Know it/Morning Glory/Rabbit Hole/How do you Know/Little Fockers (There were a lot of bad movies this year)

On to the picks...

Stealers 27, Panthers 3
Picked this one on my Facebook. A tough game to pick, I know. Shouldn't the NFL be able to pick better games for their own network? And how come they keep picking blowouts every Thursday and somehow never had Seattle play in one?

Dallas@Arizona
In 2001, had I told you that the Seahawks would be better in 2010 by keeping Jon Kitna, would you have believed me? No, right? You would have had me committed. That's how bad Matt Hasselbeck is.
Cowboys 28-10

New England@Buffalo
In his post, Jesse made a joke about the Buffalo defense, which was followed by some readers defending buffalo's defense, which was in turn followed by Jesse posting like 20 stats about how bad the buffalo defense is. I haven't watched enough Buffalo games to give an informed decision, but I do know they will look bad against the Patriots.
Patriots 38-17

New York@Chicago
First I hear that Sanchez's throwing shoulder is torn; now I hear he might play. Are we sure it was torn to begin with? It seems like that would be something that you couldn't shake off in a couple days. Regardless, he's a quarterback who doesn't play very well in the snow.
Bears 24-13

Baltimore@Cleveland
I like the Ravens, but I always root for the Browns in this matchup. Cleveland got screwed when Modell moved their team, and I'm sure it was a real stomach punch when they won the Super bowl a few years later. However rooting for the Browns and picking them to win are two very different things...
Ravens 31-21

Tennessee@Kansas City
The Titans are somehow still alive for the playoffs. They would have to win out and need the Jags and Colts to both lose their last two game. So, the Titans are not still alive in the playoffs. As for the Chiefs, did you know that if Jamaal Charles finishes the season with the average he has now, he would own the NFL record for most yards per carry? Isn't it a shame that there are more people that know about Rex Ryan's foot fetish than people that know about that stat?
Chiefs 27-24

San Francisco@St. Louis
A big game for us Seahawk fans. If the Rams win and we lose, all we have to do is beat the Rams in week 17 to win our division. If the Niners win, they get to beat the Cards in Week 17 and that might be enough to win the division. You know what, this is too important of a game to tempt fate.
No pick for fear of somehow jinxing it

Detroit@Miami
Uh...hmmm...well, Calvin Johnson is kind of fun to watch...Suh is a stud on defense...if you're at the game and are sitting in the first few rows, there's a good chance Chad Henne throws you a ball...have I said enough about this game yet? Can I move on?
Dolphins 21-18, and yes I know they're 1-6 at home, but Detroit has 1 road win in 3 years.

Washington@Jacksonville
Jacksonville missed their chance at Indy last week, but I think 10 wins gets them in the playoffs. And I can't remember the last time Rex Grossman had 2 good games in a row.
Jags 31-18

San Diego@Cincinnati
I can't think of any reason the Bengals win this game. Except that Owens is out for the season. Hmmm...
Bengals in a major upset
Bengals 28-26

Houston@Denver
Hey, Tebow didn't look half bad! That's good news for the Seahawks. The more teams in front of us that don't need a QB, the better. I've been saying it all year; Houston is always 1 game above or below .500. I have to take them on principal.
Texans 27-24

Indianapolis@Oakland
At the beginning of the year, who would have thought that this game would hold more playoff implications than Min/Phi? I don't think the Raiders are going to keep up with the Colts, although there is a good chance Manning gets one of his receivers killed again.
Colts 35-21

NY Giants@Green Bay
I'm not sure how the Giants gave up 4 TD in the last 8 minutes, but it is kind of funny that Eli Manning was involved. Can they bounce back against a Packers team returning Aaron Rodgers? Nope.
Packers 22-14

Seattle@Tampa Bay
I got to the bar early last weekend so I could watch the game from the beginning, and still managed to miss some of the first quarter. Then, after they took Hasselbeck out so he wouldn't run up the score, I left. Combine that with the weekend before when I missed some of the Niners game and I don't remember the last time I saw the Seahawks score a touchdown. I'd look it up, but what's the point? They've looked terrible for quite a long time and as much as I hope they'll show up against the Bucs, eh...
Bucs 29-13

Minnesota@Philadelphia
Because NBC has to keep putting NFC East teams on the night game. That and the world is dying to see Joe Webb play. I hate NBC. If they didn't have "Community" on Thursday nights, I don't know if I would have watched that station once this year.
Eagles 42-10

New Orleans@Atlanta
Game of the week. The best two teams in the NFC playing for the division on Monday night. Falcons have been a team that takes care of business all year; I think they do it once more.
Falcons 31-28

Bengals over Chargers ????????????...
Like that would ever happen. The chances of Buffalo winning vs. New England is much higher and I am a Patriots Fan.

Thanks for the link man. Yeah, I was surprised that anybody would want to trade for Rob Johnson. The Bengals could beat the Chargers if they started pounding the ball with Benson like they did last week. Is it probable that they will? No. That's why it's an upset special. But for the people that think San Diego will win it hands down, they won't. The chances of Buffalo beating New England are lower. Trust me. Yeah, I have the Falcons too in my game of the week. I don't do picks anymore. I do breakdowns.
