The Tuesday Tune-Up

December 15th 2010 01:55
: Start/Sit
This week I will be doing something a little different. I am giving you a start/sit list from players on two teams in Winless and my fantasy football league. Before I do this, I would like to tell you all a little story. Let me set the mood.

It all started after week 9 of the football season. During that week we encountered some problems with scheduling and one of the managers in our league became really pissed off. We lost that manager due to some technical difficulties with, well...let's just say he was being a big baby.

He acted like an elementary student and took his ball and went home.

Winless (being the nice guy he is) offered to buy his team for the original entry fee. The former manager took his offer and left our league for good. The league rejoiced. After taking over the team, Winless and I decided he would only manage the team (i.e. he would fill bye weeks and field the best team possible team each week). Fulfilling his managing duties he picked up Jason Campbell and Tim Hightower to fill byes in week 10 (remember these names they come up big later on).

Playoffs in our league started week 12. My team was the 6 seed (I had the most points in the league, but lost a couple of close games) and WINE (that's what we called Winless second team cause the former manager b*tched a lot) was the #3 seed. In our league, seeds 1-4 received a bye with #5 playing #12, #6 playing #11 and so on. I won my first two matchups beating the guy who hasn't paid the entry fee and Winless'soriginal team. WINE won its second round matchup setting up a semi-final matchup between our two teams. What happens next you wouldn't believe.

WINE had a huge week from McFadden, Campbell and Hightower. Notice the names Campbell and Hightower? Yeah, the two people that were picked up to fill byes in week 10. Both Winless and I have agreed the former manager would have never picked up these two players so, I give props to Winless for the picks. WINE had a 60 points lead on me going into Sunday with only his defense (BAL) left. I had Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and Kevin Boss so, I had a chance, but a slim one at best.

Boss got me 12 points, which put me down by 48 before the Texans/Ravens game. WINE went up by 58 due to getting the normal defensive points at the start of the game. Slowly but surely my team decreased WINE's lead. At one put with 8 mins left in the game I was down by 30 something points. I was convinced I would lose the game by a lot. Oh how I was wrong.

With in those last 8 mins the Texans came back and tied the game and helped me build a 7 point lead going into OT. At this point I sent Winless a text "Game Me!!!"Your text goes here Well, that text was the worst thing to send. A couple minutes after the text, Matt Schaub threw a pick to Josh Wilson (Ex-Seahawk) and he ran it in for a TD. I don't know about most leagues, but in our's, you get 2 pts for a pick and 6 for a defensive TD. If you're adding with me that makes 8 and I was only up by 7. Sadly, I lost 175 - 174 to a team that had a previous high score of 140. Moral of the story...don't declare victory before the end and most importantly, don't be a baby and quit your fantasy football league cause your team will probably win the championship.

Now I would like to introduce you to the two teams. These are the exact lineups from our week 14 matchup, but I have included their week 15 opponents. I will be doing a start/sit list based on the two teams.

WINE

Starters:
QB - Jason Campbell v. Den
RB - Rashard Mendenhall v. NYJ
RB - Darren McFadden v. Oak
RB/WR - Tim Hightower @ Car
WR - Reggie Wayne v. Jac
WR - Malcom Floyd v. SF
TE - Tony Moeaki @ STL
D - Ravens vs. NO

Bench:
QB - Sam Bradford v. KC
RB - Brandon Jackson @ NE
WR - Jacoby Jones @ Ten
WR - Eddie Royal @ Oak
WR - Steve Smith (NYG) v. Phi

Start:

Jason Campbell - Jason threw for 200 plus yards and 2 TDs in week 7 at Denver. He again looks to be a strong start this week against a weak Denver defense.

Darren McFadden - He is a must start against a terrible Denver team. McFadden had a huge game last week and should have another big game at home. If you have McFadden on your playoff team, this is a good start to winning this week.

Tim Hightower
- Another RB that had a huge week 14 and should have a good week against the Carolina Panthers.

Reggie Wayne
- Wayne destroyed the Jaguars in Jacksonville during week 4. He had 15 catches for 196 yards. Of course the Colts were missing some WRs during this game, but Wayne should put up big numbers again versus the Jaguars..

Malcom Floyd - Floyd faces a little tougher defense at home versus the 49ers than his week 14 matchup. However, Rivers likes to throw the ball a lot and there are not many options for him to throw too. The only down side to Floyd depends on Vincent Jackson. Does Jackson become Rivers favorite target this week? Not sure what the answer is to that question but, Jackson did play last week and Floyd still led the team in targets.

Sit:

Rashard Mendehall
- This is a terrible matchup for him and he has been dreadful his last two games. If you have a better option this is the week to not use Mendehall.

Tony Moeaki
- This guy doesn't belong on any playoff team's roster. He is not even a decent TE play. The last time he scored more than 7 points was at Oakland in week 9. Whatever you do, please don't play Tony Moeaki.

Ravens - Not a good matchup for this defense. The Texans shred them up last week and the Saints are going to do the same. Heck, if it wasn't for the pick 6 (Damn you Josh Wilson) this defense would have scored under 10 points. It has only scored over 10 points 3 times for the season. Don't roll with the Ravens if you have better options.

Analysis:

WINE has some great matchups with McFadden, Hightower and Wayne. These three players should be able to put up huge amounts for WINE. WINE also has two good matchups that could turn into great matchups if certain things fall into place (i.e. Floyd is still Rivers' main target and Campbell can duplicate his week 7 performance). Either way, those two should score at least 15 to 20 points this week.

WINE should stay away from playing Mendenhall, Moeaki and the Ravens D. However, he won't because well…just look at his bench, it's terrible. Also, he won't find any help on the waiver wire in our league. All the good players have been pickup already.

I believe a higher force guides this team now. It looks like looks no one can stop its magical and improbable run to a championship.

Jim Mora's Dirty Birds (Me)

Starters
QB - Jon Kitna v. Was
RB - Jamaal Charles @ KC
RB - Arian Foster @ Ten
RB/WR - Andre Johnson @ Ten
WR - Roddy White @ Sea
WR - Pierre Garcon v. Jac
TE - Kevin Boss v. Phi
D - Patriots v. GB

Bench:
QB - Eli Manning v. Phi
RB - Felix Jones v. Was
RB - Javarris James v. Jac
WR - Randy Moss v. Hou (Not sure why I still have this guy)
TE - Visanthe Shiancoe v. Chi
D - Chiefs @ STL

Start:

Roddy White - He faces Seattle. Enough said.

AJ and Foster - Both will put up huge points against the Titans just like they did in week 12.

Jon Kitna - Jon has been a good play at home the last two weeks and should see continued success against a banged up Washington secondary.

Pierre Garcon - He was out the first time the Colts played the Jaguars. My only concern is Wayne gets all the targets. But the Jaguars are ranked 28th in pass defense so, Garcon should be in line for another 20 point week (his third straight).

Boss - Makes for a good matchup play with the Giants hurting at WRs once again. Eli will look to Boss to fill the void. Boss was targeted 9 times in week 14 and will probably see at least that amount in week 15.

Felix Jones - If you have him he should be in your starting lineup against the Redskins awful run defense. However, I am only starting him if the Chiefs are missing Cassel again in week 15 because if Cassel plays I will go with Jamaal Charles.

Patriots - They have been hot of late and will face the Green Bay Packers at home. GB could be with out Rodgers which would make the Patriots a great play. Even if Rodgers play, the Patriots score so much teams have to pass and the defense knows it's coming. Hard to score on a defense when they know what you are doing.

Sit:

Jamaal Charles
- Only if Cassel is out.

Analysis:

My team was setup up nicely for the championship week just like WINE. However, I have a couple more favorable matchups then WINE for week 15 (8 to his 5). I feel my players will put up huge numbers this week. Roddy White will destroy the Seahawks weak secondary putting up Bowe like numbers, AJ and Foster once again will light up Titans, Kitna will be able to throw all day on Redskins and Boss is pretty much the # 2 or 3 WR for the Giants entering this week. These five will all have big games this week and are all must plays. Same goes for the Patriots defense who play host to the Green Bay Packers.

My other two starters (Charles and Garcon) should both be great plays this week as well. My only concern is Matt Cassel missing another game. Without Cassel last week the defense focused on stopping the run, which really hurt Charles. If Cassel plays, Charles will run all over the Rams. However, if Cassel is out, I will go with Felix Jones. Felix should have a great day playing against Washington’s 28th and 29th ranked run and pass defense. Either way, I have good matchups no matter if I play Charles or Felix as my second RB. I could also play one at RB and one at my flex position should I decide not to play Garcon. So yes, I was set up nicely for the championship round but, WINE crushed my dreams.

Conclusion:
Both WINE and my team have great matchups for the championship round. I feel (and I think Winless would agree) our semi-final matchup might have decided the championship.

Too bad Josh Wilson had to go and ruin my championship. Just another way the Seahawks have disappointed me this year.
