Thanksgiving cont'd

: NFL Week 12 picks
Hope everyone is enjoying their Thanksgiving weekend. A few more days of family time here at Unsportsman, and then hopefully we can finally start looking at our Tivo (screw you Time Warner) and start our sitcom feature. I have gotten more emails and texts regarding "Where is your Big Bang Theory write-up?" than I ever anticipated. It will happen. Until then, onto the picks...

Buffalo @ Jets

Friend 1: Man, what a season so far, huh?

Friend 2: The NFL?

Friend 1: Yeah.

Friend 2: Wouldn't know, haven't watched a game since the mid-90's. Who's your team?

Friend 1: The Bills. Man, it's been a tough season. We started out really good, but then we-

Friend 2: Got blown out by some teams you should have beat, almost like you folded under the pressure?

Friend 1: Uh, yeah. And then we-

Friend 2: Signed your QB to a huge extension, and he's completely sucked ever since?

Friend 1: Um, well, yeah. But that's not the worst of it. Our-

Friend 2: Your best player is gone for the year with some kind of leg injury, which really sucks because he's a running back?

Friend 1: I thought you haven't watched any football this year?

Friend 2: Some things never change bud.
Jets 35-11

Minnesota @ Atlanta

Peterson is not playing after spraining his ankle, or in layman's terms, Peterson is not playing because what's the point?
Falcons 28-10

Cleveland @ Cincy

Can you guess who is leading the Browns in rushing? Go ahead, I'll wait. Nope. It's Chris Ogbonnaya with 285 yards. Receiving? Greg Little with 438 yards. Had you heard of either players before reading that? Me neither. This year's Cleveland Browns are like the NFL's version of Mad Libs.
Cincy 26-17

Tampa Bay @ Tennessee

Chris Johnson followed up his second 100 yard game of the season by rushing for 13 yards last week. The good news is he's only 3 years away from signing with the Seahawks. As for the Titans, UW alumni Jake Locker looked pretty good after Hasselbeck got injured. Between his strong showing and Keith Price looking great during his sophomore season, I'm pretty excited about the future of Husky quarterbacks in the NFL. That is, of course, assuming Price gets out of UW with two working legs after this season (for those not watching UW games, here's video of Coach Sarkisian taking care of Keith Price).
Titans 24-20

Carolina @ Indy

Until I have any proof to the contrary, I'm starting a rumor that Jim Caldwell is getting paid under the table for every game he loses. Show me one example of him trying to win at any point during a game this season. I have never seen someone mailing in their profession this badly; outside of the current (2002-present) version of Dennis Miller.
Panthers 35-28

Arizona @ St. Louis

Two years ago, everyone thought Bradford and Kolb were going to be great quarterbacks. I'm not saying those people were wrong, just...um...well, they were probably wrong.
Rams 13-10

Houston @ Jacksonville

Gary Kubiak: How you feeling bud?

Andre Johnson: I feel great coach! I've been working my butt of to get back on the field. I have to say, it was worth it. I've never felt better.

GK: That's good bud, I'm happy you're back.

AJ: I'm sorry that I didn't watch any of the games. I didn't want to get distracted from my recovery. I spent every Sunday in the gym working hard. Tell Schaub to just throw it up, I'm gonna catch it.

GK: Uh, Dre, listen. Um, Matt's gone for the year. You have Leinart throwing it to you now.

AJ: Who?

GK: Matt Leinart.

AJ: Lefty from the practice squad?

GK: Now, no, that was the second team. He was the backup. Now he is our starter.

AJ: No way man, I saw him throw, he was practice squad. Sign someone else.

GK: We did.

AJ: Oh, thank God, Who?

GK: Good player out of Oregon. Started a few games in New York. Great guy. Great arm

AJ: Who?

GK: Real winner. If Leinart can't get it done, he'll be a huge help.

AJ: Who is it. Tell me.

GK:

AJ:

GK: Kellen Clemens.

AJ: *#%* you.
Texans 21-17 (Because it's still Jacksonville)

Chicago @ Oakland

Hey Bears fans, take the above dialogue, write in "Lovie Smith" and "Caleb Hanie", and then pour yourself a drink. I'm so sorry. At least you locked up Forte already! Wow. I'm so sorry.
Raiders 24-17

New England @ Philly

I hate it when a game like this falls through the cracks. ESPN just refuses to give TV time to teams from Boston or Philly. Not one word this week. For those not paying attention, the Eagles playoff hopes are about to meet their final nail on Sunday. It was a good Super Bowl run guys.
Patriots 31-21

Washington @ Seattle

Shhhhhhhh! Seahawk fans, we're all on the same page. Don't say anything, let's keep it quiet. One game at a time...
Hawks 22-14

Denver @ San Diego

In 6 games, Tebow has thrown the ball 125 times and notched 7 touchdowns against 1 interception. In 4 more games, Rivers has thrown the ball 280 more times, notching 8 more touchdowns than Tebow but 16 more interceptions. The Broncos have won 4 of 5. The Chargers have, not surprisingly, lost 5 in a row. Might as well ride both streaks.
Broncos 20-17 (Sealed by another Rivers pick. Like always.)

Pittsburgh @ Kansas City

Sunday Night Football!
The Stealers catch every break. Man I hate them.
Stealers 27-3

NY Giants @ New Orleans

After the last couple of stinkers (GB-MIN, NE-KC) it's nice to have a quality game on Monday Night Football. Will someone tell me if the Giants are good or not? Their six wins: STL, @PHI, @ARI, BUF, MIA, @NE. Outside of the Patriots game, is that at all impressive? I wasn't kidding, I think this will be a quality game, but the NFC East is kind of a joke this season. Just saying.
Saints 24-21

Last week: 11-3
Season: 106-53

I actually did know both Little and Ogobannaya before this season. Little was a star receiver in college for UNC, but he was one of the many players on the team who were suspended due to those allegations. Little was a talented player coming out of college, and he is the Browns best receiver. However, Colt McCoy targets him too much- he's their only worthy wideout- which leads to Little having a low catch rate. And hell, he still isn't that good anyway. The only thing he can do well is break tackles and make plays after the catch. Ogobannaya is a poor running back who either has an awful game or a great one; he's too inconsistent to be a starter. Sam Bradford has absolutely no help on his team, but he was never that great to begin with. He's about an average quarterback and might even be a little below average to tell you the truth. Kevin Kolb is put in a bad situation in 'Zona, because he has to learn Ken Wisenhunt's complex playbook and hasn't been able to do it. He has been poor, but not as bad as people will have you think. Kolb is actually averaging the same yard per attempt that Kurt Warner did when he was first with the team. Kolb is no Warner, but I could see him as an average starter when everything settles down. His offensive line is one of the worst in the league, and I have no idea why left tackle Levi Brown is still a starter (let alone in the league). Sure he had a crazy game against the Steelers, but that doesn't make up for horrendous games every other game of the year. Each year Brown has one outstanding game (read the double-meaning) but reverts to old form and sucks in the other ones. I think Matt Leinart has a shot to be an Alex Smith. He just has to stay back and let his running game to the work, and I trust Dennison and Kubiak's molding of him. Everybody on the team says that there has been a legit improvement (what are they supposed to say?) but I honestly think that he has. Leinart could have left after last season, but he chose to stay to keep learning the system. Caleb Hanie has a lot of money on the line right now, because he stands to gain a lot if he can play well. Hanie is a mobile guy with decent accuracy but I do question his deep ball. He seems like somebody who can get you across the river, but a guy on his boat will end up drowning in the process.

I'm rooting for Hanie. Tough situation, fun team...it'd be a bummer if he tanked out of the gate.

Thursday Night Philly, Monday Night St. Louis. We haven't seen prime-time "stinkers" yet unfortunately...
