Olindo Mare - Seattle Seahawks FG Kicking Machine
June 16th 2010 17:15
Olindo Mare last missed a field goal in a game during Week 3 of the 2009 season (he went 4/6 that game). You remember the game for the bright green jerseys. You remember the post-game comments of then head coach Jim Mora (now out of the league).
Apparently, so does Mare. He finished 2009 making 21 straight, and thus far in minicamp and OTAs he's a mind blowing 104/104. According to special team coordinator, Brian Schneider, a majority of the 104 haven't just been good - they've been down the middle. “He’s so accurate and consistent," Schneider says, adding, "It makes you feel confident that you’re going to get points when you get the opportunity.”
Those "opportunities" that Schneider speaks of might be few and far between for this offense given the questions at RB, WR, and OL - not to mention Matt Hasselbeck might have trouble walking upright after about Week 3 again (as he did in the 2009 season - hence Seneca Wallace taking the snaps in those horrible bright green jerseys). Let's face it - the offense has more questions than answers right now. Yes, they drafted a great prospect to replace Walter Jones, but they still have the same guys in all the other positions along that line...
So maybe Jim Mora did more for the Seahawks than we give him credit for. He's created a FG kicking monster. Hopefully Mare is accurate from 50 - as that's about all the "opportunity" I see for him this season trying to clean up for this offense.
