: Your quick Thursday night pick
These Thursday night games kind of bother me. Not because I don't like random football in the middle of the week, but because I have Time Warner Cable and Time Warner Cable doesn't carry the NFL Network. I can't special request it, I can't pay extra to get it, it's just not available. So there is football on, and unless I go some place to watch it, I can't see the game. Which sucks. But at least Time Warner Cable has condescending customer service. Here is an actual call I had earlier this year with them:

Me: Hi. Um, I'm right now hitting the record button on my remote, and nothing is happening. I think that maybe the Tivo, the Tivo that you promised to give me when I set up my account with you, that Tivo is broken

Time Warner Cable Customer Rep: Sir, I'm not sure what you mean.

Me: Well, when I ordered through you guys and set up my new place, I was told the price quoted me included a Tivo. I am beginning to think that this cable box in my living room, the one I am currently using, isn't a Tivo at all. I'm thinking you guys forgot to give me one.

TWCCR: That's not correct. That order was never placed.

Me: It is correct. When I called in to order with you guys, I spent 5 minutes discussing with the lady where to put it. I remember the exact conversation because it only happened like 4 days ago. I was choosing between my bedroom and the living room and I finally settled on the living room.

TWCCR: Well, for starters sir, we don't carry a Tivo.

Me: Huh?

TWCCR: Sir we don't carry a Tivo (said with condescending douche-iness oozing off the word Tivo). We carry a DVR.

Me: Wow. Ok, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to call your DVR a Tivo. I'm certain there is some kind of difference between the two, and I'm certain you're going to tell me that a DVR is somehow superior.

TWCCR: It is.

Me: Sure, whatever. My point is that your superior equipment was supposed to be here right now, and it's not a big deal, I'm not mad or anything, I would just like your DVR in my living room like we agreed on.

TWCCR: No problem sir. That will be an additional $19.99 a month and a onetime installation fee of $100.

Me: (click)

So, yeah, I don't like Time Warner Cable that much. And despite a couple more calls, I ended up paying more for a Tivo; er DVR; despite being quoted a price that included a DVR when I signed up. Whatever. At least they were nice about it...

But I digress. I had a couple people point out a problem with last week's picks column. The Oak/SD pick, while eerily accurate, was posted almost a full 24 hours after the game was played. I don't see this as that big of a deal, but I was told that there was a fear that the outcome of that game influenced my pick. I'm not sure how the two are connected, but to avoid future accusations, I'm going to go ahead and pick this game before it's played. Such sticklers...

Some will look at this game and see a pick of destiny. Tebow, 3 wins in four games as a starter, is a born winner and a guy you can't pick against. They might also point out that he has 7 TD passes and only 1 INT. I would point out that he has a completion percentage of 44% and last week beat a team who lost their QB halfway through the game by completing 2 passes. 2!! Funny side note, he went 2 for 8 (with that one long touchdown pass) and finished with his highest single game QB rating for the season (a 102.6). The game before he had 5 times the completions, twice the completions rate, twice the yardage and twice as many touchdowns and finished with a 98.1 QB rating. They may want to retool that rating system.
Anyhow, I like Tebow. I have nothing against him. However, I can't pick Tebow to beat the Jets a week after he completed two more passes than I did.

The Broncos won, and it's all because Matt Sanchez can't score more than 13 points against one of the worst defenses in the league. Sanchize? Hahaha.
