Hasselbeck Under Fire? No Way.
August 4th 2010 04:46
The Seahawks' signing of QB Charlie Whitehurst from the the Chargers made several fans and sports writers skeptical of the new regime. Coach Pete Carroll said he was brought in to push Hasselbeck and make him better. If you're like any other die hard Seahawks fan and you've been paying attention to training camp so far, then you'll know this:
IT WORKED.
Hasselbeck has been lauded by media and coaches for his work ethic and how fast he has picked up Jeremy Bates' new offense. Every day, the highlights from training camp show Hasselbeck airing it out on long 60 yd TD drives, to multiple wideouts. This includes the impressive abilities shown by rookie WR Golden Tate so far also. Highlight reel potential in that guy.
Hasselbeck has worked hard to get to where he is on this team, there's no way that some QB that looks like Jesus is going to knock him off the perch that he's held for so long now. Let alone a guy that has NEVER thrown a pass in a regular season NFL game. Sorry Charlie. They're just not in a hurry to push Hasselbeck out the door, and he's certainly not going to be opening it for you anytime soon. When healthy and well protected, Hasselbeck is a pro bowl QB, and has all the leadership qualities that a coach would want in his field general.
I'm looking forward to a much more explosive offense than we've seen in a long time in Seattle. I think Coach Bates, Coach Carroll, and Matt Hasselbeck are the guys that can and will deliver that this year.
GO HAWKS!

I see a hole in your logic. So will opposing defenses as they'll spend a lot of time in the backfield. Name the O-line starters right now.
Whitehurst is a hurt back/neck/knee/rib/shoulder away.
I'd love to be wrong on this - but I just don't see Hasselbeck going all year injury free...

Out of that group - who's your "best"? Unger? Locklear? Good thing that RIGHT side is "well" protected. Defenses never rush from the left side anyways...
Whitehurst - right, I forgot about JP Losman. Man, how did I forget that he was ahead of Whitehurst... Wait. Who? THAT, JP Losman? Oh, yeah WAY better option. Not.

Also you speak of untested. Is there any other QB in the NFL right now more untested than Whitehurst?! (excluding rookies). ZERO regular season passes! EVER! Enough said on him.

How do you say Okung is the best in one sentence, then exclude rookies and ALL CAPS words like "zero" and "ever" in the next sentence?
Doesn't Okung have ZERO regular season snaps in the NFL? EVER? But he's the best we have. Right. Got it.
