Ex-Seattle Player of the Week
September 24th 2010 22:17
So we'll be the first to admit that we've slacked off with this post. Blame it on us not even caring enough to watch the Mariners anymore. Or the fact that this may have been an ill-fated "weekly" post as is - given the limited number of ex-Seattle players available for our choosing...
Nonetheless - we're back on track! And we're officialy renaming this column the "Ex-Seattle Player of the Whenever One Does Really Good Award".
To catch us up - we've choosen a few Ex's that are worthy of this award and we'll throw them all at you right now in rapid succession. Get ready!
Kenji Johjima
Though we can't find any stats in English to back up his selection here, we've heard nothing but how awesome he's doing back home. Good thing the Mariners watched him decline, paid him more, then he cut ties with us. Thanks Bill!
Yuniesky Betancourt
Yuni would currently be #2 on the Mariners with 16 HR's behind Branyan (25). He'd also lead the team with 76 RBI (Gutierrrrrrez would be a distant 2nd with his 58). Betancourt hit a total of 27 HR's in his 4.5 years as a Mariner - in his 1.5 years as a Royal, he already has 20. Not to mention his Royal RBI total (103) is already more than half of his Mariner total (202) in the category. Yes folks. Yuniesky Betancourt would be considered the most feared bat in the 2010 Seattle Mariner lineup.
Mike (Michael) Morse
Morse would be another feared bat in the 2010 Mariners lineup. Seeing the most playing time of his career - he's done a lot with it. In 240 AB's (the most he's ever had in the Majors) so far this season, he's hitting .300 with 13 HR's. In 300 AB's as a Mariner he hit a grand total of 3. He also only mustered 90 hits in his 4-year Mariner career - he has 72 this season alone.
