Ex-Seattle Player of the Week #2
August 4th 2010 14:57
It's that time of the week again...
We had a few submissions this week, but there's always room for improvement! The contest is just in it's infancy for this year - so you've got plenty of time to get your name in the hat for the drawing! Send those submissions! Tell your friends!
This week's winner is making a very strong case to be the Ex-Seattle Player of the Year!
Adrian Beltre, Boston Red Sox
8/2 stat line: 3 AB, 2 H, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI
He was almost our pick for the inaugural Ex-Seattle Player of the Week, but a late shining performance from Batista outdid him. Now the tables have turned and his last game's performance won him the award.
Ironically, since the Mariners/Boston series last month - in 11 games he's batting .311 (14/45) with 7 R, 3 HR and 10 RBI. I don't know if he ever had a stretch like that as a Mariner. His year this year is nothing short of amazing. He was a 1st time All-Star, and is on pace to have his best year since 2004 (not implying that he was taking any performance enhancers... but...). He's set to collect career best's in hits (187) and doubles (42), while pacing for a .316 batting average with 27 HR and 106 RBI (all totals that eclipse what he ever did as a Mariner).
Congrats, Adrian Beltre, not only are you the Ex-Seattle Player of the Week for this week, but you are the leading contender for the Ex-Seattle Player of the Year Award!
Send in those submissions for next week and until then - check back with us often for updates, rumblings and grumblings!

Great post. Maybe during football season we should think about doing an Ex-Seahawk of the week?

One step ahead of you on the Ex-Seahawk idea though - hence, the "Ex-Seattle Player", meaning we can use it over all Seattle sports.
