Just a short little post about the plans of EWU in Cheney, WA.
After a $500,000 donation from Michael Roos of the Tennesee Titans (former EWU player), and $324,000 more from private donations, the Eastern Washington University Eagles will have a brand new RED turf to play their football on.
Besides saving money converting from grass to turf, I think the colored turf concept is pretty cool, I mean who doesn't like watching BSU play on the smurf turf? Having said that, I think that red turn is going to raise more of an issue, especially with the amount of sunlight in Cheney, that field is going to be horribly bright. Then you mix that with the fact that the Eagles wear a red uniform at home, it might just be too much for fans to handle. And forget about watching that on TV at all. My eyes hurt just thinking about it.
As for the effects on the school, EWU officials are very excited about using the red turf as a recruiting tool, and really seem to think that playing on a red turf is going to bring in higher level recruits. They seem to forget that they play in the Big Sky Conference and are located in Cheney, but to each their own.
And like Boise State with their smurf turf, fans will have to come up with a cool name for EWU's field. Any guesses or ideas?
