Championship Games

January 22nd 2012 18:47
: Where even Alex Smith is better than TJax
Only 3 more games left in the football season, unless you count the Pro Bowl (which you shouldn't), and there's a good chance that we'll be looking at a Bos-NY championship. Which really sucks. Let's just say I'll be rooting for the Ravens and Niners. The Cuz bought a house this week (congrats!) so he had to literally phone in his picks while he was getting the new place up and running. Onto the picks...

Baltimore @ New England

Winless: Can ANYONE match up with 2 absolute BEAST TE's? Baltimore has always had a stout defense - and that's not a question this year either - they are decent, for sure. Now with Ed Reed less than 100%? Forget it. New England is home in the playoffs, and they're playing out of their minds. Brady gets a 2nd shot at the G-men in a revenge match.

The Cuz: Pats win because they score on everyone (there's a Lohan/Britney/Hilton joke to made here, except I don't know who the current version of that joke would be. Have we finally run dry of floozy, slutty "actress/singers" to make fun of?)

Elliott: When Baltimore made their Super Bowl Run 12 years ago, I remember reading a column from Drew Carey imploring everyone to root against the Ravens as they had less than ten years before that been taken from his beloved town of Cleveland. As someone who lost his favorite basketball team (F**k you NBA) recently, I completely understand the feeling, and I feel kind of like a hypocrite rooting for the Ravens here. However, had Drew Carey been forced to choose between the Ravens and the Patriots, I'm certain he would be rooting for Baltimore as well. I hate the Patriots. You should hate the Patriots. Everyone should hate the Patriots. But they're at home, they have Rob Gronkowski and they'll probably win. Now we can get two more weeks of pieces about how amazing Tom Brady is and how lucky we all are to have him. Awesome.
Pats 31-21

NY Giants @ San Francisco

Winless: Kind of took the suspense out of this one in with my 1st pick. Stupid 49ers ruined my second 4-0 playoff week. In doing so they've doomed themselves to lose this next game. I've been listening to all the interviews (sportscasters/media; players; coaches; even fans) and they all talk like that was the SB for the 49ers. Fine by me. Stupid 49ers. The Niners are 2.5 point favorites - take the 3 away they get for home field and there's going to be a Manning playing in Indy this year after all. Giants set up half of my repeat scenario.

The Cuz: SF loses as they can't score on Good D's (Ed note)

Elliott: I don't know what happened to Alex Smith. I don't even recognize him anymore. I look at Alex Smith the same way I look at Kelly Clarkson in that new car commercial I keep seeing (well, I think it's Kelly Clarkson. They might have put a wig on Chris Berman and had him play both parts). Here's my list of biggest surprises this season:

1. Alex Smith
2. Rob Gronkowski
3. Peyton being done (and having his retirement reported by Rob Lowe)
468. Tarvaris Jackson

So now comes Alex Smith's biggest challenge: Being the last chance to stop a repeat of a Bos-NY Super Bowl. The Giants are on fire right now, and that D looks fantastic, but that whole fan base is getting a little too confident. And all I've heard the last week is that the Giants "should have won" the matchup earlier this season. I say the Niners get upset that they're getting no respect and pull out a close one.
Niners 24-23
