The Tuesday Tune-up

November 10th 2010 00:34
: Add/Drop List
Week 2 of the now World Famous Tuesday Tune-up (A guy can dream right?)

Weekly Pickups

Matt Cassel, QB, Chiefs - Need a good QB who has a favorable remaining schedule? Matt Cassel is that guy. Just look at his remaining games at Den, Ari, at Sea, Den, at SD, at Stl, Ten, Oak all but SD and Ten have pass defenses in the bottom half of the league. If you are struggling at the QB position, Cassel makes for a good play for 6 of his remaining 8 games.

Derek Anderson, QB, Cardinals - Derek makes for a great week 10 bye filler. He faces the Seahawks who are surrendering an average of 270 yards through the air. The Seahawks have the 30th ranked pass defense and have a patch work D Line which requires help from the safeties to stop the run. This puts the corners in man-on-man matchups with no safety help. That is good news for Derek because Seattles corners cannot cover my grandmother.

Shaun Hill, QB, Lions - Matthew Stafford cannot seem to stay healthy. Advantage Hill. Hill is almost fully recovered from his broken arm and will surely take over the starting job soon. Hill performed well while Stafford was injured during weeks 2-7. He was averaging 244.2 yards per game and put up 9 TDs with 6 INTs during his five starts. Hill has a chance to be a top 10-15 QB by seasons end.

Blair White, WR, Colts - Anthony Gonzalez is out for the year and Collie has a concussion. Enter the next No-name WR to fill the slot spot. It does not matter who plays the slot spot for the Colts, Manning will make him a star. Note: check on Collies status to see if he will play week 10.

James, Jones, WR, Packers - Jones has had over a hundred yards receiving in two of his last 3 games. Jones has appeared to move into the starting lineup. If Greg Jennings continues to get doubled, Jones would make for a nice WR3 or flex option.

Nate Washington, WR, Titans - Nate should benefit from the pickup of Randy Moss. Moss will surely get the attention of the other teams #1 CB. Also, teams will more than likely have over the top safety help on Moss which will put Nate in 1-on-1 coverage. Nate is good enough to exploit the other teams #2 CB.

Javarris Jamas, RB, Colts - Javarris got the goal line carries for the Colts in week 9. If Addai is out again for week 10, Javarris makes for a decent flex play in deeper leagues. Keep an eye on Addai status during the week.

LaRod Stephane-Howling, RB, Cardinals - LSH is a great fit for leagues that score return yards. He currently leads the NFL in return yards. LSH could make for a decent flex play from here on out in deeper leagues.

Joel Dreessen, TE, Texans - Filled in nicely for the injured Owen Daniels. He had 5 catches for 67 yards. Dreessen makes for a decent TE play in deeper leagues while Daniels is out.

Jacob Tammes, TE, Colts - Today I checked one of my leagues to get a feel for Tammes percent owned. I was amazed to see he was only owned in about 60% of the leagues. Tammes should be owned in every league. If he is available in your league PICK HIM UP ASAP.

Visanthe Shiancoe, TE, Vikings - Shiancoe had a good week 9 game with 4 catches 66 yards and a TD. So far Post-Moss era has started out well. He should see an increase role in the offense going forward.

Taking out the trash (people to dump)

Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions - Stafford is done for the year and it is sad cause he showed a lot of potential.

Kevin Kolb, QB, Eagles - In case you have not heard Michael Vick is back and has a strangle hold on the starting job. Kolb is an after thought in Philly. His only value is a handcuff for Michael Vick owners. However, if you need room on your team, there is no reason to keep Kolb.

Deion Branch, WR, Patriots - Well, I guess the Patriots can make mistakes. Giving up a 4th rounder to Seattle for Branch looked like a steal in week 6 when Branch had 9 catches for 98 yards and a TD. Unfortunately, Branch has only 7 catches, 81 yards and 0 TD in his last 3 games. Deion is not worth a spot on your roster. Get rid of him.

Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Raiders - Last week I asked the question Is Heyward-Bey finally starting to life up to his draft position or does Seattle have that bad of a pass defense? I think everyone now knows the answer to that question. Maybe if Seattle still played in the AFC West it would make sense to hang onto Heyward-Bey just for that matchup. But, sadly, Heyward-Bey has no more 5 foot 7 inch CBs to pick on.

Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Colts - I really hate this guy. Not because I thought he would be a good pickup and made me look foolish, but because he cannot seem to make it through a whole season and still makes more money in one year than I probably will make in my life. Grrrr, Gonzalez is now on IR and can be safely dropped in all leagues.

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers - For the past couple of years Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams have driven fantasy owners crazy. No one knew which back would have a big game. It always seemed whoever you played was the wrong choice. But, there was hope for Stewart owners going into week 9. Williams was hurt and Stewart was the #1 back. This was his time to shine and reward those who had hung onto him. He answered his fantasy owners call by leaving the game with a concussion. If Stewart is out for an extend period, he will be useless to your team. Check his status later on in the week for his availability.

C.J. Spiller, RB, Bills - Spiller has rushed for 30 yards only twice this year. He is not a factor in the running for the Bills. However, he has taken over the punt return duties for the injured Roscoe Parrish. But, if your league does not factor in return yards or is not a keeper league, Spiller has no value going forward.

Brent Celek, TE, Eagles - I am pretty sure Vick cannot see Celek on the field. If he does, he sure as heck will not throw him the ball. The success Celek was tied to Kolb. Now that Vick is the starting QB again, Celek is absolute.

Jeremy Shockey, TE, Saints - Shockey recorded his 3rd TD of the year against Carolina during week 9. So, why should he be dropped? Well, that TD catch was his only catch of the day. Shockey is not part of the offense anymore. David Thomas is a bigger part of the offense now.
